Shawnee Hills is mainly a residential community located on the west side of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir. The community and the immediate surrounding areas offer entertainment, recreation and sight seeing activities that enhance the quality of life of our residents and visitors. Some of these include the Columbus Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club, Ohio Wildlife Center and the O'Shaughnessy Dam that includes an overlook platform of the water table at Glick Park

SHAWNEE HILLS VILLAGE HISTORY

The Shawnee Hills Additions, which collectively totaled over 3,600 lots were platted in the 1920’s as a resort fishing community on the O’Shaughnessy Reservoir of the Scioto River. Lots were small, typically 35’ by 70’, exclusive of the road easement. Many of the platted streets were initially constructed to access the lots, but no utilities were installed because no public water or sewer was available.

Community Sites

Community Pavilion & Playground

In 2016 the Village of Shawnee Hills built a community pavilion located adjacent to the Shawnee Hills Police Department and children's playground. This pavilion is for the year round enjoyment of the village residents. The park and pavilion are open during daylight hours.

O’Shaughnessy Reservoir

The City of Columbus owns approximately 425 acres of land around the O’Shaughnessy Reservoir.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

In 1927, the Columbus Zoological Park opened with a small collection of donated animals.

Ohio Wildlife Center

The Ohio Wildlife Center (OWC) “is a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation education.”

Libraries

The Delaware County Library System serves the Village of Shawnee Hills

STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Village of Shawnee Hills is required to develop, implement and support a Storm Water Management program (SWMP) to the maximum extent practicable (MEP), to protect water quality, and to satisfy the appropriate water quality requirements of the Ohio Revised Code 6111 and the Clean Water Act.
