Revolutionary War era gardens

Join us at Monahan Park as we hear from Kathleen Kelley, presenting information from the gardens of George Washington at Mt. Vernon, Thomas Jefferson at Monticello, and Heirloom country gardens of the Midwest. Designs of these two estates and examples of specific plants will be discussed, focusing on how these estates provided for the needs of many residents. Design and plants for a kitchen garden of a regular household in the Midwest during this Era will also be discussed.

Join Tom and Morag Miller as they present herbal remedies from the Revolutionary War Era! The presentation will include examples of plants used and how they were used to treat injuries or sickness. Be sure to join them at Monahan Park, you may even find them wearing special attire!

Chalk the Shops
Village‑wide
Come share your artistic skills and village pride within the commercial corridor of the Village! We would love to see art and America themed designs chalked on the sidewalks in front of businesses on Dublin and Glick Roads. Chalk will be provided by the Shawnee Hills Chamber of Commerce and will be located throughout the corridor.

In partnership with resident and council member Rob Thather as well as the American Legion, the Village will be hosting a presentation on the United States Flag at Monahan Park. We will interact with the flag by learning how to fold, how to display, and the history of our flag over the last 250 years!

Lucy Depp Birthday Celebration / History

Our neighbor, Lucy Depp, is turning 100 this year! Join us at Monahan Park as we celebrate their history and learn how the development of Lucy Depp and the village have interacted. We will share stories and aspirations to help lead Lucy Depp into the next 100 years. In true birthday fashion, cupcakes will be provided.

Ancestors Who Served in Early Major Wars

As we wrap up our two-week celebration, we meet again at Monahan Park to discuss ancestors of the village who may have served in early wars. These ancestors not only shaped those who live in the village, but these major wars have shaped America over the last 250 years. The discussion will primarily focus on the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican American War, Civil War, and Spanish-American War.
