Local Income Tax
The Village of Shawnee Hills, like many Ohio communities, has a municipal income tax. In 1994, the Village contracted with the Regional Income Tax Agency (R.I.T.A.) through a Regional Council of Governments, to administer the collection of the income tax. R.I.T.A. is a public organization established in 1971 under section 167 of the Ohio Revised Code that currently serves 139 municipalities throughout Ohio. R.I.T.A. offers a variety of services to residents and businesses in the Village. Whether it is online, in person, or over the phone, all services are free. Did you know you may be eligible for a refund of local income tax for days worked outside the Village of Shawnee Hills?
For example, if you work in Columbus, but your position requires that you travel and work in another municipality or you work from your home, you may be entitled to a partial refund for the taxes your employer withheld to Columbus, for the days you worked in another municipality. You need to file a request for refund with the municipality where you work. Q. Is there a mandatory filing requirement as a resident of Shawnee Hills?
A. Yes. RITA member municipal residents have a universal filing requirement (UFR). In the event you qualify for exempt status, you should complete an Individual Declaration of Exemption form. This form is available by calling RITA at 800-860-7482 and at www.ritaohio.com.
