Meet Chief Russell Baron

Chief Baron has been a member of the Shawnee Hills Police Department since 2011. Previously he served with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and the Youngstown State University Police Department. He has served on fugitive recovery and street crimes task forces in both the Youngstown and Columbus areas; giving him very diverse experiences.  His training focuses primarily on criminal investigations and law enforcement administration.

Before his promotion to Chief of Police in 2015 he previously oversaw patrol operations and served as the liaison for our community policing programs; coordinating events such as National Night Out. Chief Baron has also worked with our neighboring agencies during the planning phase of the Muirfield Memorial Tournament, the Presidents Cup, and other large local events to ensure minimal impact to our community and the safety of everyone that attends these events.

Chief Baron has been the driving force behind positive changes in the police department that ensures high standards and professional policing.  He believes that through community and police partnerships we can continue to have the trust of our residents and maintain our peaceful town. The police department is here to serve the community, and to properly do so we must maintain an open line of communication with our community members to understand what their needs are.
